Elle cumule tous les avantages s\u00e9curitaires de la PKR dont elle est une am\u00e9lioration, avec moins de douleur et des r\u00e9sultats plus rapides qu’une PKR classique.
Sa r\u00e9cup\u00e9ration est toutefois plus lente qu’avec le Lasik.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PKR (Photorefractive Keratectomy)<\/strong> and TransPKR (Transepithelial PRK)<\/strong> are two refractive surgery techniques used to correct visual defects such as myopia<\/strong>, astigmatism<\/strong>, and in some cases, hyperopia<\/strong>. Although similar in their goal, they differ in their surgical approach, postoperative comfort, and healing process. Let\u2019s compare them to better understand their respective advantages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is PKR?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

PKR<\/strong> is one of the oldest refractive surgery techniques, introduced in the 1980s. It consists of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Remove the corneal epithelium<\/strong> (the surface layer of the cornea) manually or using diluted alcohol to soften it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Using an excimer laser<\/strong> to reshape the corneal stroma underneath to correct visual defects.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Place a bandage lens<\/strong> to protect the cornea for a few days while the epithelium grows back.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    What is TransPKR?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    TransPKR<\/strong>, also called transepithelial PKR<\/strong>, is an evolution of traditional PKR. It differs in that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \n
    1. The excimer laser<\/strong> performs both epithelial removal and corneal stromal remodeling in a single step<\/strong>, without manual intervention or the use of alcohol.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    2. Epithelial removal is performed more uniformly<\/strong>, reducing the risk of collateral damage.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    3. As with PKR, a bandage lens<\/strong> is placed after the procedure.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      2. Faster recovery<\/strong>: Since epithelial ablation is performed more precisely by the laser, epithelial regeneration is faster.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      3. Reduced risk of infection and inflammation<\/strong>: Since the procedure is performed entirely by laser, there is less contact with the eye, thus reducing the risks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      4. Better visual quality<\/strong>: Regular corneal reshaping often leads to better post-operative vision quality.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
