Trans-PRK: Interview with Dr. Chemla

Trans PKR: Safety and Effectiveness.

In this video, Dr. Marc Chemla presents the laser eye surgery technique known as Trans PKR. It is the only 100% laser technique that is truly non-contact with the patient's eyes for correcting myopia, astigmatism, hyperopia, and presbyopia.

Below is a script from the video:
– Is Trans PKR really without any contact?
– Absolutely, everything happens at a distance from the eye and is completely painless. It is the only 100% laser technique without contact.

– How does it work?
– The operation is very brief, lasting about twenty seconds per eye. It is completely painless. However, the aftereffects can be more painful, especially the first night. Visual acuity improves within two to three days, and to reach optimal clarity can sometimes take 1 to 2 weeks. This is a procedure we often perform on Thursday evening after a workday, and after a good weekend of recovery, the patient can resume normal professional activities by Monday morning.

– Dans quels cas la TransPKR est-elle indiquée?
– All thin or irregular corneas that raise concerns about complications if LASIK is performed, as well as all patients who cannot tolerate any contact or manipulation in their eyes. It is truly a technique that is performed at a distance without contact.

– Do you still practice other surgical techniques?
– Yes, sometimes other techniques are preferable, such as LASIK or femtosecond laser, which we still perform daily.
It is only after the preliminary examination that we can determine the patient's eligibility and choose the appropriate technique.

– Can Trans-PKR correct presbyopia?
– Yes, presbyopia, like myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism, can benefit from it.
